A NOTE ABOUT REGISTRATION FEES

Registration fees for the Ocean Optics Conference are set by balancing anticipated conference expenses with confirmed sponsorship and agency support. For this edition, overall costs have increased compared to previous conferences, primarily due to the withdrawal of a major long-standing sponsor. The planning committee has been working diligently to secure alternative funding sources and reduce expenses wherever possible; however, a modest increase of approximately 10% in registration fees was necessary to ensure a balanced budget and maintain the quality and scope of the meeting.

In addition, The Oceanography Society is required to register for Value Added Tax (VAT) in Belgium and collect VAT on applicable sales. Belgian entities or entities with a Belgian VAT number and fiscal representation will not be charged VAT. Registration fees purchased by all other entities are subject to the standard 21% Belgian VAT. If you believe you are exempt from VAT, please contact the Conference Coordinator, Jenny Ramarui, to discuss how to proceed.

In many cases, businesses may apply for a VAT refund through the Belgian tax authorities or a third-party provider. Please consult the Belgian tax authority website for more details.
