EVALUATION OF REMOTE SENSING REFLECTANCE FROM PACE OCI SENSOR IN COASTAL WATERS
Accurate retrieval of remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) from Ocean Color (OC) satellite sensors holds paramount importance for advancing OC algorithms, particularly in estimating inherent optical properties and chlorophyll-a concentration. However, the current processing of OC sensors like VIIRS and OLCI is plagued by uncertainties in Rrs, which are notably pronounced in the blue bands. These uncertainties primarily stem from Rayleigh scattering, with additional complexities arising from water variability, particularly accentuated in coastal regions, while other atmospheric correction components typically contribute smaller uncertainties. The PACE-OCI sensor represents a cutting-edge advancement in technology, boasting hyperspectral capabilities that promise a deeper understanding of the prevailing uncertainties in Rrs retrievals, particularly within the UV and blue spectral range. In this work, we will evaluate the results of the initial six months of OCI sensor operation, together with Rrs products from SNPP-VIIRS, NOAA20, and Sentinel 3 OLCI sensors, and compare them against retrieved Rrs measurements obtained from the Long Island Sound Coastal Observatory (LISCO) and other AERONET-OC approaches will be considered to improve Rrs retrievals taking advantage of a better understanding of the uncertainties structure.
