ABSTRACT 935 | POSTER W-011

HYPERSPECTRAL RADIOMETRIC MONITORING OF ATMOSPHERIC AND OCEANIC CONSTITUENTS

By combining measured and modeled irradiance spectra, it is possible to monitor environmental quantities such as cloud, ozone and water vapor layer thicknesses in the atmosphere, and phyto-plankton, colored dissolved organic matter, and non-algal particle concentrations in the ocean. We have developed a Python script to control a set of TriOS Ramses hyperspectral radiometers that measure the spectral irradiance and spectral radiance in the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Measurements were made both on a city rooftop in Bergen, and in a fjord near Bergen, where atmospheric and oceanic constituents were retrieved using the radiative transfer model AccuRT. By feeding this model with the set of environmental quantities listed above, and by using Newton’s method to minimize the difference between the modeled and measured spectra, we were able to find optimized sets of these parameter after a few iterations, that gave an excellent fit to both the measured roof and fjord spectra.
