OCEAN COLOR OBSERVATION THROUGH CALIGOLA MISSION: PROTEO PROJECT
Recently, the use of space-based atmospheric lidar measurements has shed light on their importance in the study of ocean color. The Cloud and Aerosol Lidar for Global Scale Observations of the Ocean-Land-Atmosphere System (CALIGOLA) space mission, led by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), will be the first space lidar mission also focused on ocean observations. In this context, the PeRfOrmance simulaTor for ocEan Observations (PROTEO) project aims to strengthen the CALIGOLA mission by improving its scientific and application aspects and quantitatively assessing its ocean observation capabilities. The main goal of the project is to create an end-to-end lidar performance simulator (E2E-LPS) for ocean color measurements to asses the specifics of the CALIGOLA lidar system and estimate the expected ocean color performances. This presentation will provide an overview of the PROTEO project and the first results.
