ABSTRACT 887 | POSTER T-070

STRAY LIGHT CORRECTION FOR MARINE OPTICAL NETWORK (MARONET) BUOYS

The Marine Optical Network (MarONet) buoy is a part of the PACE satellite vicarious calibration schema. MarONet is located 50 km off the coast of Perth, Western Australia. There are two MarONet buoys each with two spectrographs, analogous to the Marine Optical Buoys (MOBY) off the coast of Hawaii. One spectrograph covers the blue end of the visible spectrum from 350 nm to 700 nm and the second covers the red end of the visible spectrum from 500 nm to 915 nm. Unwanted stray light can be an issue with spectrographs and affects the uncertainties of the instrument’s measurements. Even high-quality spectrographs can have stray light from spectral 2nd order, internal reflections, fluorescence, poor baffling, and unknown sources. Also, decreasing responsivity in the spectrograph’s detector near its spectral limits can increase the effect of stray light, for example, in the blue end of the visible spectrum. Presented will be the stray-light measurement facility, measurement method, and preliminary results.
