CROSS-CALIBRATION OF GOCI-II WITH MULTI-SATELLITE DATA IN NIR BAND

Since 2020, GOCI-II has been observing the full disk and Northeast Asia, continuing the mission of GOCI, the world’s first geostationary ocean color observation satellite. Optical absorption, scattering, and reflection by the atmosphere can affect the satellite data quality. Therefore, removing the influence of the atmosphere is particularly important when using satellites for environmental monitoring, such as ocean and atmospheric observation. Atmospheric correction is a crucial factor in improving the accuracy of satellite data. This study aims to enhance the accuracy of the GOCI-II atmospheric correction algorithm, which is a crucial process in generating multi-satellite ocean color data. This enhancement is achieved through cross-calibration on the GOCI-II near-infrared (NIR) bands at 745 and 865 nm, by utilizing data from both GOCI and polar orbit satellites. To ensure the required accuracy of the radiometric calibration for atmospheric correction in the GOCI-II NIR bands, ray-matching with other satellites was studied. To facilitate the vicarious calibration of satellite data, efforts were made to minimize the adjacency effects from land and clouds. This involved excluding pixels near land and clouds from the analysis and establishing various criteria, such as setting thresholds for solar/sensor zenith angles, to account for differences in observation times and geometrical angles among satellites. The coefficients derived from this process were then applied to GOCI-II radiance data, followed by comparative analysis. These results are expected to contribute to the enhancement of the accuracy of the GOCI-II atmospheric correction algorithm.
