ABSTRACT 1031 | POSTER M-083
We have liftoff: bridging research and user needs in the post launch era of the PACE Applications Program
Launched in February 2024 and serving data to the public as of April 2024, the NASA Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) satellite provides a novel set of hyperspectral and polarimetric Earth observation (EO) capabilities that can support environmental management and address societal challenges across the aquatic, terrestrial, and atmospheric domains. PACE provides water resources managers and decision-makers with highly accurate ocean color and atmospheric observations that are anticipated to introduce new, or improve existing, operational products, ultimately fulfilling real-world needs. Practical applications of PACE data in aquatic regions may include support for best-management practices for estuarine and coastal waters, marine conservation, harmful algal bloom species discrimination and early-detection, as well as sustainable fishery and aquaculture practices. To achieve this, the PACE Applications Program bridges researchers and applied end users through programming such as the PACE Community of Practice, workshops and focus sessions, and information-sharing and co-production activities. This presentation will outline key updates to PACE Applications activities in the post-launch era, including a new program emphasis on increasing the accessibility, and by extension actionability, of PACE data. We will also highlight case studies from our new Applications Partners program as they relate to societal challenges in aquatic regimes.
