ABSTRACT 1129 | POSTER 48

ALGORITHM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT FOR GOCI-II OCEAN COLOR PRODUCTS

GOCI-II was launched on the 19th of February in 2020 as the successor of GOCI-I onboard the Geo-Kompsat 2B satellite with 10 years of mission lifetime. GOCI-II is currently in regular operation by the Korea Ocean Satellite Center (KOSC) of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST). GOCI-II has moderate spatial (250 m at nadir) and spectral resolution (12 spectral bands from 380 to 865 nm) with unprecedented temporal resolution (10 daytime images per day), and observes the Northeast Asian Sea including the Korean Peninsula. Since the launch of GOCI-II, various studies for improving the accuracies of the product have been underway through full-scale Cal/Val (calibration and validation) activities. Here, the current status of the algorithm development and improvement for GOCI-II ocean color products is introduced along with public service scheme of the products. GOCI-II mission including user requirements, instrument design, etc. is introduced followed by the discussions on the algorithm for atmospheric correction, chlorophyll-a, dissolved organic matter, total suspended matter, diffuse attenuation coefficient and photosynthetically available radiation. Finally, we will mention about the distribution system for the public data service.
