SPECTRAL PROXY PARAMETER LINKING INHERENT OPTICAL PROPERTIES AND REMOTE SENSING REFLECTANCE IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF NATURAL WATERS

A spectral proxy parameter linking remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) and inherent optical properties (IOPs) was determined for in different types of natural waters. Remote sensing reflectance was modeled using optical properties representative for this reservuars at eight wavelengths (412, 440, 488, 510, 532, 555, 650, and 676 nm). Rrs values were obtained using Morel’s proxy algorithm and Monte Carlo radiative transfer simulations. Comparison of the modeled reflectance values enabled determination of the spectral proxy parameter (k). The results demonstrate a clear wavelength dependence of this parameter. For each investigated areas, the spectral variability of k was approximated using a three-parameter quadratic function. The obtained parameterization improves the relationship between inherent optical properties and remote sensing reflectance and may support more reliable interpretation of ocean color measurements in various types of natural waters.
