THE NEW AND EXCITING PACE INLAND WATERS DATASET
NASA’s PACE (Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem) is an Earth observing satellite with unique instruments including the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI), which provides hyperspectral data allowing for unprecedented approaches for observing inland waters. PACE products will provide additional information to water quality managers and researchers interested in inland water systems. NASA’s new OCI Inland Waters (ILW) dataset will cover waterbodies across the contiguous United States (CONUS) and Alaska. ILW includes the Cyanobacteria Index (CIcyano; unitless) to estimate cyanobacteria concentrations and Rayleigh-corrected top-of-atmosphere reflectance (ρs(λ); unitless) at 122 wavelengths. This dataset significantly lessens the processing effort required by end users and is a standardized community resource for inland waters algorithm development and performance assessment. The goal of the ILW dataset is to allow users to explore the data and develop further water quality products from PACE. The poster will present details on the ILW dataset and show imagery and highlight observable features in the data like harmful algal blooms. The development of PACE inland water quality products is ongoing, therefore feedback from the Ocean Optics community is encouraged.
