IMPLEMENTATION OF GOCI SERIES PAR ALGORITHMS: FROM LOCAL TO FULL DISK COVERAGE

The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI), the world’s first geostationary ocean color sensor, operated for over a decade until March. Its successor, GOCI-II, continues this mission with improved spatio-temporal and spectral resolutions, covering both the Korean Peninsula and Full Disk (FD) regions. Despite its importance, Photosynthetically Available Radiation (PAR) was previously unavailable as an official product for the GOCI series—a gap this study successfully addresses. An optimized PAR algorithm for the GOCI series was developed and validated against in-situ data to ensure high accuracy. This algorithm has been implemented for GOCI-II official product generation, with test production currently underway. By bridging GOCI-I and GOCI-II, this work establishes a consistent, long-term dataset for monitoring the East Asian marine environment. To enhance international utility, the algorithm was extended to the FD area, providing a critical foundation for primary production estimation in regions such as Indonesian waters. Official distribution is scheduled for 2027, underscoring GOCI-II’s operational excellence and expanded utility in global ocean color research.
